Potions are literally your lifeblood in Dungeon Siege so be sure to stock up with plenty when you visit town. It may be a long journey to the next town. Each character may carry more than one spell book. This is useful for storing more than 12 spells, having a space to save extra spells for selling or giving to a new party member, or carrying a book with just nature and another with just combat magic. Plus if you'd like to sell extra spells you can sell a full spell book and get the price for both the book itself and each spell all at once. Even if you're not actually using a sword, bow, or shield at any one point in time, as long as the item is equipped on your paper doll inventory screen you still get any magical bonuses that the item may have on them. Keep in mind that having items in your inventory alone will not help since they need to be filling a slot on your equipped items. When your party is ambushed sometimes the best strategy is to retreat. Opening the megamap will allow you to quickly retreat from the fray, regroup, and then strategically handle the situation. If battles begin to get out of hand you may use the space bar to pause the game. This will give you time to plan your attack, issue commands, and drink potions. Using the Transmute spell on loot will save on inventory space but will yield less money than if you had sold it at the store.
Try placing an attack spell in your first spell slot and a healing spell in your second spell slot. This will allow you to switch back and forth from offense to defense very quickly. If you come across a large group of monsters, try to lure only one or two away by sending out a strong melee character up ahead to get a few to follow him. Then run your melee character back to your party where the rest of the group can aid in picking them off. The explosive powder spell can be very useful for long distance attacks. Thanks to the physics engine in Dungeon Siege, the bombs will bounce off of walls and along the ground. This will also allow you to attack around corners. Certain buff spells can be cast multiple times on the same individual. You can buff your party up before entering a battle and not have to worry about rebuffing for several minutes.
Healing Hands is a level 0 nature magic spell, therefore any of your party members can use it. If you set up hotkeys to allow everyone in your party to switch to healing, you can greatly decrease the time it takes to recover during and after battles, and the untapped mana of your melee and archers can be put to use. Mana Chant is a level 9 Combat Magic spell which doubles mana regeneration for the caster for a short period of time. This buff can be stacked, but as any experienced combat mage can tell you, stacking too quickly can render you unconscious or dead. An efficient way to buff this repeatedly is to have everyone in the party except the mana chanter equipped with a healing spell, and with all party members selected, repeatedly right-click on the buffing target. This way the party can keep up with the rapidly dropping health of the intended target. Disable password protection on a multiplayer game by deleting your game password. To do this, click Host Game. In the Host Game dialog box, clear the Password check box.
Whew! A lot of writing! ;D
